Parent to Parent Communication
The scenario that comes to mind when I think of a blog as a means to communicate with parents is this: The teacher posts a discussion or relays information about what is going on in the classroom and invites parents to respond or comment. What happens if parents, students, or anyone from the internet, makes inappropriate comments or is just rude to other bloggers? Should there be a set of guidelines on the page to remind users to be respectful of each other? Or should rude comments be deleted? How can this issue be diverted altogether?

I was thinking about what you mentioned as I was creating this blog. In order to maintain a professional atmosphere, on a classroom blog I would want to view the comments before they are posted for all to see. There is actually an option on this blog to basically screen the comments before granting them permission to be posted. I think that this is crucial on a classroom blog since it is publically viewed and anyone can leave a message. This also makes it even more important to keep your blog up to date. If you want to maintain a conversation between parents, you need to make sure you are checking your blog frequently in order to grant permission for comments to be posted. As with anything, I suppose, there are pros and cons to using this feature, or a blog in general.

Great questions! I definitely think that the blog should be introduced, maybe on Back-to-School night, which would be a great time for the teacher to pass out "guidelines" or procedures for the blog. I would definitely let the parents be aware that if a comment is posted that is inappropriate, being the owner of the blog, the teacher has the right to remove the comment, or re-post it in an appropriate way! As for students, I'm not really sure if they should be allowed to post on the blog, maybe it should just be for parent-teacher communication.
